There is an ocean of information out there about giving to charity whether you are interested in kids volunteering, school community service, family community service, scout activities and projects, or something else! Sometimes it's hard to navigate what's out there . We have selected several organizations that provide great information, ideas, and expertise on offering your time, talent, or money whether you are a kid, teenager, adult, educator or community leader. City Year (www.cityyear.org): City Year’s youth service corps unites 1,500 young people, ages 17 to 24, for a year of full-time community service, leadership development, and civic engagement. These young leaders tutor and mentor school children, reclaim public spaces, and organize after-school programs and camps.
The Corporation for National and Community Service (www.nationalservice.gov): The Corporation provides grants and training to volunteer organizations; creates opportunities for volunteers to meet the country’s needs; and conducts research to enhance community service programs at the national and local levels.
Do Something (www.dosomething.org): A nonprofit that provides tools and resources for teenagers to convert ideas and energy into positive action.
GiveSpot (www.Givespot.com): A free volunteer and philanthropy resource center that makes it easy to find ways to make a difference in your community. The site lets you evaluate 900,000 charitable organizations, locate 50,000 volunteer opportunities, research 100,000 foundations, and explore social issues.
Taking it Global (www.tigweb.org): An organization dedicated to serving young people between the ages of 15 to 30 through an online community and initiatives that help engage youth and education programs geared toward middle and high school students.
Youth Activism Project (www.youthactivismproject.org): A website dedicated to proving that minors can play a major role in our country. This group provides a national nonprofit clearinghouse of information to youth workers, mentors, teachers, principals, policy makers, parents, and organizations that support young advocates.
Youth Policy Action Center (www.youthpolicyactioncenter.org): A website that engages young people and adults in democracy; changing policies that change young people’s lives. More than 30 of the country’s leading advocacy organizations launched the website which welcomes participation from all organizations representing all populations of youth and related issues.
Youth Service America (www.ysa.org): An international nonprofit resource center that seeks to improve communities by increasing the number and diversity of young people (ages 5-25) serving in important roles in the youth service movement.
